The saltwater resistance and excellent floatability makes the system suitable for use in both fresh and salt water. This results in numerous possible applications.

Many island groups, such as the Maldives, the Seychelles and Indonesia have the following problem with energy production:

  • Energy is generated from diesel or oil
  • 517 million liters of diesel per year cause 1.4 million tons of CO2 in the Maldives
  • There are extremely high costs for electrical energy: 0,25 – 0,50€/kWh
  • Land use is very costly
  • High demand for electrical energy for hotels
  • Few large roof areas for rooftop installations

Maldives – Meeru Island Resort & Spa

The Maledives with its many small islands could be the ideal use case for SolOcean floaters. One possible example is Meeru Island:

Total area of the island: 1200m x 350m
Required area:

  • PV system for 12h operation:
    115m x 115m or 13,200 m² = 2,5 MWp
  • PV system with storage for 24h operation:
    179m x 179m or 32.250 m² = 6 MWp
